With the NHL reg­u­lar sea­son about to open, some early bet­ting favorites are becom­ing evi­dent based on the sports bet­ting action so far at Lines­Maker. Yes­ter­day we took a look at the top con­tenders in the west­ern Con­fer­ence and today we look at the top five teams in the East based on the over­all bet­ting vol­ume of our customers.

Pitts­burgh Pen­guins: Last year’s Stan­ley Cup Cham­pi­ons are the clear favorite to repeat this sea­son. Along with a decent sup­port cast, Crosby and Malkin alone are enough to keep the Pens seri­ous contention.

Philadel­phia Fly­ers: The Fly­ers have remark­able offen­sive depth with Carter, Richards, Briere, Gagne. It is clear Pronger will bol­ster the blue line and Matt Carle has had a strong train­ing camp. Ray Emery’s has been solid in net.

Wash­ing­ton Cap­i­tals: The Cap­i­tals are not a well rounded team but can pro­duce offen­sively as well as any team in the league. Beyond Mike Green the defense is ques­tion­able and nei­ther Var­lamov nor Theodore have taken the lead in net.

Boston Bru­ins: The Bru­ins are very tough up led by gritty wingers Milan Lucic and Blake Wheeler. Tim Tuukka are a strong 1–2 com­bi­na­tion in net and Chara con­tin­ues to lead the defense. They ought to eas­ily lead their division.

New Jer­sey Dev­ils: With Jacques Lemaire back at the helm, oppo­nents will soon be stran­gled by the dreaded neu­tral zone trap. A more defen­sive approach this year may pro­vide dif­fi­cul­ties in tran­si­tion for play­ers such as Parise. Goal­tend­ing is likely to be steady with Broduer.
