Neimi Seals it for Blackhawks
Two unlikely players led the Chicago Blackhawks to their latest 1–0 victory over the Vancouver’s Canucks. Bryan Bickell scored his first goal of the season and Antii Niemi stopped 30 shots for the shutout.
Blackhawks coach Joel Quennelville called Niemi’s play “Spectacular”. He kept the game scoreless through two periods until defenseman Brian Campbell set up the only goal early in the third. He lost the puck in a crowd in front but it squirted back for Bickell to tap-in a goal, his first since 2007, behind goalie Roberto Luongo.
Niemi came up with several big saves throughout the game. Vancouver nearly tied it with 6 1/2 minutes left to play when Alexander Edler’s beat Luongo but hit the blocker side post. Chicago has some great talent but Niemi and Bicknell were certainly the unexpected heroes in this game.
