Ovechkin Injured. Capitals Hurting.
The big questions in hockey this morning are: How will the Washington Capitals cope without Ovechkin? and; how will this affect their betting odds to win the Stanley Cup this season?
The Capitals key player, Alexander Ovechkin’s has reported to the Yahoo! that his injured shoulder may keep him off the ice and out of the Washington Capitals lineup for 4 – 5 weeks. Ovechkin was injured on Nov 1st when the Capitals met the Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus won the game 5 – 4.
“I am better. But I will miss four-to-five weeks,” Ovechkin reported to Yahoo’s Puck Daddy blog on Saturday night. It seems he doesn’t want to risk going back until he has made a 100% recovery.
The Capitals seemed to be disputing his claim or at the very least down playing the seriousness of the injury. Ovechkin has 14 goals and 9 assists in 14 games prior to this injury.
Linesmaker.com’s betting lines for the Stanley Cup 2009/2010 show the Washington Capitals still at +600 along with the San Jose Sharks while the Pittsburgh Penguins are +400 favorites to repeat as Stanley Cup champs in 2010.
