Flyers Lose Carcillo
Having the fighting spirit is a good thing but not when the NHL suspends you. This is the case with Flyers forward Dan Carcillo who retaliated to a high stick with a cross check and then dropped his gloves and punched Washginton’s Matt Bradly on Saturday night. After receiving Carcillo’s punch Bradley fell to the ice and left the game. Bradley wasn’t penalized despite having started to remove his gloves. His role in the fight earned him a staggering 19 penalty minutes, a game misconduct and a four game suspension.
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren isn’t happy with the decision. “Decisions come down from the league. Do I agree with them all? No. I certainly do not agree with this one,” Holmgren said. “We do not have a lot of recourse in this situation, Dan will serve his suspension and we will move on.” Carcillo’s suspension will start on Monday when the Flyers take on the Habs in Montreal. Although the Flyers are clearly dissatisfied with losing Carcillo, a more troublesome issue for the Flyers may be the play of Emery, who appears to be struggling with an undisclosed injury.
