Blackhawk Down, Ovechkin Suspended
Sunday saw a crazy day for the Chicago Blackhawks, they lost to the Washington Capitals, Brian Campbell broke his collar bone and Alex Ovechkin was suspended.
It was Ovechkin who caused the Blackhawks’ defenseman’s injury. He pushed him from behind while he was already losing his balance causing him to crash into the end boards. Ovechkin received a five-minute boarding penalty and game misconduct.
The Capitals had fallen behind 3 – 0 after Ovechkin was sent for an early shower but they rallied to a 4 –3 victory. Nicklas Backstrom scored two goals, the last one unassisted with 1:50 left in overtime. This proved, that even without a key player, the Captials still have a lot of other talent. That’s why they have the NHL best record and highest-scoring offense. However at LinesMaker, the Blackhawks are 3/1 favorites to win the Stanley Cup 2009/2010 closely followed by the Capitals at 4/1.
Alex Ovechkin, the league’s leading scorer and two-time MVP, has since been suspended for two games without pay. The NHL’s press release called his push into Campbell reckless.
