Dallas Stars Not Shining

The Dal­las Stars were shin­ing when they beat Wash­ing­ton on Mon­day.  Unfor­tu­nately, they could not repeat their great shoot-out per­for­mance when they met the Buf­falo Sabres on Wednesday.

Buffalo’s rookie Tyler Myers scored 55 sec­onds into the game and had three assists, but it was Thomas Vanek’s goal in the sec­ond period that sealed the Sabres a 5–3 vic­tory over the Stars (29–25-12).  The teams were tied at three after the first 20 min­utes but Buf­falo dom­i­nated the final two peri­ods as the Stars could only man­age to get six shots on Buf­falo goalie Ryan Miller, who fin­ished with 17 saves. This was the Sabres third straight win.

Com­ing out of the Olympic break the Stars have lost four of five impor­tant games and now the West­ern Con­fer­ence play-off slot seems to be slip­ping away. Dal­las has odds of 40 to 1 to win the con­fer­ence at Lines­Maker and now remain 5 points behind eight-place Cal­gary with odds of 30 to 1 and have no games in hand.
