NHL Names Weekly Stars
The NHL named 3 stars this week – Brian Elliot, Craig Anderson and Sidney Crosby.
Brian Elliot earned the highest honor. The Ottawa Senator netminder stepped in for Pascal Leclaire and won all four of his starts. Elliott’s week started allowing one goal on 23 shots in a 5–1 win against Boston. In the Senator’s next game, he allowed just one goal on 30 shots against the Chicago Blackhawks. In the game with St Louis he had 27 saves and stopped 32 if 33 shots for the Senators in a 2 – 1 victory against the Bruins. He certainly deserved the NHL’s top accolade for the week.
The second star was Craig Anderson who has helped to take the Colorado Avalanche from last in the Western Conference in 2008-09 to first in the Northwest Division this season. His week saw him allow only one goal out of 81 shots winning three straight, including a pair of shutouts.
The third NHL star is Pittsburgh’s captain Sidney Crosby who had 8 points last week, six of them in a single game, a 6–4 win against the Islanders, which was a career best.
