Roddick, Federer Wins First Round at U.S. Open

Andy Rod­dick and Roger Fed­erer both sailed through the first round Mon­day at the U.S. Open in New York. Roddick’s 6–3, 6–2, 6–2 win over French­man Stephane Robert, came as an amus­ing gift on his 28th birth­day. With this win, ninth-seeded Rod­dick aug­mented his career U.S. Open record to 36–9. Diaz, McCann Homer as Braves Defeat Marlins

The game end­ing ninth-frame homer from Brian McCann sparked an Atlanta come­back and ral­lied the Braves to a 7–6 win over Florida. Matt Diaz con­tin­ued with his ten­dency to smash the fish, as he belted a two-run home run in the bot­tom of ninth inning for Atlanta Sun­day, to tie the game. Rafael Nadal and Roger Fed­erer are on top for the U.S. Open, the final major ten­nis tour­na­ment of the year. Both are the top two seeds for the U.S. Open begin­ning on Mon­day, and con­tin­u­ing through to Sept. 12. The St. Louis Rams recorded a 36–35 pre-season win over New Eng­land Thurs­day, thanks to Josh Brown’s 37-yard field goal in the last min­utes of the game. NFL Preseason– Green Bay Passes Indianapolis 59–24

The Green Bay Pack­ers over­pow­ered Indi­anapo­lis 59–24 Thurs­day, cour­tesy of the incred­i­ble per­for­mance by Aaron Rodgers who threw for 195 yards and three touchdowns. Fin­ish­ing 21-of-29 throws, Rodgers has hit 41-of-53 for 470 yards with six touch­downs and no inter­cep­tions, in his three appearances.
