USA Announces Roster for 2010 FIBA World

USA Bas­ket­ball final­ized the 12-man ros­ter for the 2010 FIBA World Cham­pi­onship Tues­day, as Rajon Rondo, the Boston Celtics star point guard, with­drew his name.

After Rondo dropped on the point guard depth chart trail­ing behind Der­rick Rose and Rus­sell West­brook, the 2010 All-Star and All-Defensive First Team appar­ently felt that he was on the bubble.

Although believed to be per­fect for coach Mike Krzyzewski’s pres­sure defense due to his amaz­ing rebound­ing and defen­sive skills, Rondo wasn’t capa­ble of pro­vid­ing defense. Rondo, who was thought to be the worst shooter among the six guards left on the ros­ter, referred to some fam­ily mat­ters as the rea­son behind his withdrawal.

The World cham­pi­onship begins on Sat­ur­day, and Team USA will have only two vet­er­ans, Chauncey Billups (Nuggets) and Lamar Odom (Lak­ers). Guided by Billups, the guard lineup com­prises Stephen Curry, Eric Gor­don, Rose and West­brook. The for­ward lineup has Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay, Danny Granger and Andre Iguodala.

Boosted by Tyson Chan­dler, Kevin Love and Odom, the Amer­i­cans will face Croa­tia in the open­ing bid. Lines­Maker has the USA as 23 point favorites over Croa­tia in the NBA bas­ket­ball bet­ting lines for Saturday’s open­ing match, and the total is cur­rently sit­ting at 176.5.
