A quiet and unim­pres­sive week­end for Col­lege hoops but the can­di­date for game of the week is the Broncs nar­row 55–51 vic­tory at home to the 0–6 Red Foxes. Justin Robin­son and Ryan Thomp­son nailed late free throws for the win. It could have turned into a dis­as­trous loss for the Broncs, with La Salle, Rut­gers and a visit to Siena on the sched­ule in the com­ing weeks. Lakers Outshine the Suns

Kobe Bryant’s 26 points led the Lak­ers to the NBA’s best record at 16–3. Bet­ting action has the Lak­ers as 2 to 1 favorites to win the NBA Cham­pi­onship at Lines­Maker and they proved that they are a seri­ous threat beat­ing the Suns 108 –88 on Sun­day night. The defend­ing NBA cham­pi­ons have a nine-game win­ning streak but their home-heavy early-season sched­ule was cer­tainly a fac­tor. Their last win­ning streak was seven straight. Saints and Colts Remain Undefeated

The Indi­anapo­lis Colts and New Orleans Saints both remain unde­feated in week 13 of NFL 2009. While it was an easy win for the Colts, the Saints found them­selves work­ing a lit­tle harder but ended up vic­to­ri­ous, 33 – 30, in over­time aided by the Wash­ing­ton Red­skins field goal kicker. The Colts hosted the Titans who had won five straight games until this defeat. The Titans were not liv­ing up to their name as the Colts marched down the field and scored a touch­down in less than two min­utes. ACC Title Goes to Georgia Tech

Geor­gia Tech, 12th ranked in the nation, won the ACC cham­pi­onship game on Sat­ur­day. It was Jonathan Dwyer’s 15-yard touch­down run with 1:20 left that gave Geor­gia Tech their 39–34 vic­tory over No. 25 Clemson. The Yel­low Jack­ets (11–2) play­ers were in good form through­out the game – Josh Nes­bitt threw a 70-yard TD pass to DeMary­ius Thomas, and Scott Blair kicked a title game-record four field goals. Golden Bears Outrun by Huskies

The bet­ting action at Lines­Maker leaned towards Cal­i­for­nia with over 60% of the action but Wash­ing­ton upset bet­tors and fans alike with a 42 – 10 vic­tory over the Golden Bears. Bears Beat Rams but Fail to Cover

The Chicago Bears had a 17–9 vic­tory over the St Louis Rams but it’s not really any­thing to roar about. Defeat­ing the Rams isn’t a great accom­plish­ment con­sid­er­ing they are one of the NFL’s worst teams. The Bears dis­ap­pointed many Lines­Maker bet­tors how­ever, as they failed to cover the 9.5 point spread with nearly 60% of the bet­ting action on them to cover. Boise State Meets TCU in Fiesta Bowl

Unde­feated for the sec­ond con­sec­u­tive sea­son No. 6 Boise State will meet No. 3 TCU in the Fiesta Bowl, this will be the first time a BCS game, other than the cham­pi­onship game, has a matchup of unbeaten teams. On Sat­ur­day Doug Mar­tin struck four touch­down runs for Boise State (13–0, 8–0 West­ern Ath­letic Con­fer­ence) fin­ished unbeaten with a 42–7 vic­tory over New Mex­ico State on Saturday. Smelling Like Roses – Ohio State vs. Oregon

New Year’s Day sees the Big Ten cham­pion Buck­eyes meet­ing the Pac-10-winning Ducks in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. This game will make a pleas­antly tra­di­tional fin­ish to two remark­able seasons. The teams knew they would face each other since Thurs­day, when the No. 7 Ducks held off Ore­gon State 37–33 in the ‘Civil War’ to claim the Pac-10’s top post­sea­son spot. Flyers Lose Carcillo

Hav­ing the fight­ing spirit is a good thing but not when the NHL sus­pends you. This is the case with Fly­ers for­ward Dan Car­cillo who retal­i­ated to a high stick with a cross check and then dropped his gloves and punched Washginton’s Matt Bradly on Sat­ur­day night. After receiv­ing Carcillo’s punch Bradley fell to the ice and left the game. Bradley wasn’t penal­ized despite hav­ing started to remove his gloves.
