Flyers Lose Carcillo

Hav­ing the fight­ing spirit is a good thing but not when the NHL sus­pends you. This is the case with Fly­ers for­ward Dan Car­cillo who retal­i­ated to a high stick with a cross check and then dropped his gloves and punched Washginton’s Matt Bradly on Sat­ur­day night. After receiv­ing Carcillo’s punch Bradley fell to the ice and left the game. Bradley wasn’t penal­ized despite hav­ing started to remove his gloves. His role in the fight earned him a stag­ger­ing 19 penalty min­utes, a game mis­con­duct and a four game suspension.

Fly­ers GM Paul Holm­gren isn’t happy with the deci­sion. “Deci­sions come down from the league. Do I agree with them all? No. I cer­tainly do not agree with this one,” Holm­gren said. “We do not have a lot of recourse in this sit­u­a­tion, Dan will serve his sus­pen­sion and we will move on.” Carcillo’s sus­pen­sion will start on Mon­day when the Fly­ers take on the Habs in Mon­treal. Although the Fly­ers are clearly dis­sat­is­fied with los­ing Car­cillo, a more trou­ble­some issue for the Fly­ers may be the play of Emery, who appears to be strug­gling with an undis­closed injury.
