Ovechkin Injured. Capitals Hurting.

The big ques­tions in hockey this morn­ing are: How will the Wash­ing­ton Cap­i­tals cope with­out Ovechkin? and; how will this affect their bet­ting odds to win the Stan­ley Cup this season?

The Cap­i­tals key player, Alexan­der Ovechkin’s has reported to the Yahoo! that his injured shoul­der may keep him off the ice and out of the Wash­ing­ton Cap­i­tals lineup for 4 – 5 weeks. Ovechkin was injured on Nov 1st when the Cap­i­tals met the Colum­bus Blue Jack­ets. Colum­bus won the game 5 – 4.
“I am bet­ter. But I will miss four-to-five weeks,” Ovechkin reported to Yahoo’s Puck Daddy blog on Sat­ur­day night. It seems he doesn’t want to risk going back until he has made a 100% recov­ery.
The Cap­i­tals seemed to be dis­put­ing his claim or at the very least down play­ing the seri­ous­ness of the injury. Ovechkin has 14 goals and 9 assists in 14 games prior to this injury.
Linesmaker.com’s bet­ting lines for the Stan­ley Cup 2009/2010 show the Wash­ing­ton Cap­i­tals still at +600 along with the San Jose Sharks while the Pitts­burgh Pen­guins are +400 favorites to repeat as Stan­ley Cup champs in 2010.
