Watkins Glen Win Helps Montoya Break 113-Race Skid

Juan Mon­toya made a break­through by win­ning the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips At The Glen NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, Sun­day. This win came as a huge respite after he strug­gled in 2010 and finally won after three years.

Mon­toya led 74 of 90 laps dur­ing the race, thereby man­ag­ing to claim his first win in 113 races. He faced back-to-back dis­ap­point­ments at Indi­anapo­lis and Pocono.

The race favorite Mar­cos Ambrose was sur­passed by Kurt Busch in the clos­ing laps to claim second-place. Win­ner of the Nation­wide race at Watkins Glen Inter­na­tional the day before, Ambrose cap­tured third place.

AJ All­mendinger, a for­mer Champ Car stand­out, and pole­sit­ter Carl Edwards cap­tured the fourth and fifth place, apiece.

Jamie McMur­ray ran sixth, while Tony Stew­art, Kyle Busch, Jeff Bur­ton and Jeff Gor­don were among the top-10 fin­ish­ers. Besides, Ambrose, McMur­ray, Ryan New­man and Mark Mar­tin were the only other dri­vers who man­aged to lead a lap on the road-course stop.

At Lines­Maker, Juan Pablo Mon­toya had 8 to 1 odds of win­ning this race, and he lived up to the expec­ta­tions of his sup­port­ers. Lines­Maker had Busch at 25 to 1 odds to win the race, while Ambrose was given 7 to 2 odds. Ambrose failed to rise up to the per­for­mance level expected from him. How­ever, the sur­pris­ing ele­ments obvi­ously were Mon­toya and Busch.
