Saints Win, Fail to Cover Point Spread
Garret Hartley hit a 37-yard field goal in the last 2 seconds to give the New Orleans Saints a 25–22 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
The third field goal of the game also came from Hartley and accounted for a seven-play, 51-yard drive with 1:14 minutes remaining.
Drew Brees completed 28-of-38 for 254 yards including a crucial 30-yard pass, which set the winning kick, to Marques Colston at the San Francisco 18. He also contributed with a pair of touchdown passes with no interceptions in the Saints (2–0) win. Pierre Thomas pulled down eight receptions for 57 yards.
The Niners (0–2) tied the game 22–22 in the last 1:19 minutes with a 7-yard run scored by Frank Gore, who completed 112 yards on 20 carries. Completing 23-of-32 passes for 275 yards, Alex Smith scored for the 49ers with two interceptions.
