MLB saw a fairy­tale story come true with an age-defying feat, Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer threw eight innings of two-run ball and Shane Vic­torino hit a three-run triple as Philadel­phia destroyed the New York Yan­kees 6–3 on Wednesday.

The 47-year-old Moyer made his major league debut exactly 24 years ago to this day and became the old­est pitcher ever to beat the Yan­kees. Moyer (7–6) gave up nine runs in one inning in his last start, but came back with vengeance and com­pletely shut down the dynamic Yan­kees offense, while the Phillies took a lik­ing to Yan­kees start­ing pitcher A.J. Burnett.

Robin­son Cano hit his 14th homer of the year in the sec­ond but left the ball­park towards the end and Jorge Posada had a solo shot in the fifth for the Yan­kees (41–24), who remain tied with the Tampa Bay Rays for the best record in base­ball atop the AL East.

The Yan­kees saw their nine-game home win­ning streak come to an end and the Phillies won for the sec­ond time in six outings.

Philadel­phia beat all odds and came out trumps against the Yan­kees. The Phillies  have odds of 12/1 and the Yan­kees 3/1 to win the World Series.
