Phillies Overpower the Yankees
MLB saw a fairytale story come true with an age-defying feat, Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer threw eight innings of two-run ball and Shane Victorino hit a three-run triple as Philadelphia destroyed the New York Yankees 6–3 on Wednesday.
The 47-year-old Moyer made his major league debut exactly 24 years ago to this day and became the oldest pitcher ever to beat the Yankees. Moyer (7–6) gave up nine runs in one inning in his last start, but came back with vengeance and completely shut down the dynamic Yankees offense, while the Phillies took a liking to Yankees starting pitcher A.J. Burnett.
Robinson Cano hit his 14th homer of the year in the second but left the ballpark towards the end and Jorge Posada had a solo shot in the fifth for the Yankees (41–24), who remain tied with the Tampa Bay Rays for the best record in baseball atop the AL East.
The Yankees saw their nine-game home winning streak come to an end and the Phillies won for the second time in six outings.
Philadelphia beat all odds and came out trumps against the Yankees. The Phillies have odds of 12/1 and the Yankees 3/1 to win the World Series.
