This sea­son, the Uni­ver­sity of Con­necti­cut Huskies are likely to fin­ish close to the bot­tom of the 16-team Big East. Com­ing off a woe­ful 18–16 sea­son, UConn has lost three of their top four scor­ers, Jerome Dyson, Stan­ley Robin­son and Gavin Edwards.

In terms of an NCAA bas­ket­ball bet­ting per­spec­tive, Lines­Maker has UConn at 50–1 to win the 2011 Men’s NCAA Bas­ket­ball Tour­na­ment. With bet­ting lines at 9–2, Duke is the top favorite to win the tour­na­ment, fol­lowed by Michi­gan St (6–1) and North Car­olina (10–1).

The Stam­ford Advo­cate report­edly said that Jim Calhoun’s team was picked to fin­ish 10th in a pre­sea­son poll. This sea­son the team has more than half under­class­men, with six fresh­men on the UConn ros­ter. The Huskies are highly depen­dent on vet­eran Kemba Walker, who is going to lead the young tal­ents like Jeremy Lamb and Roscoe Smith.

Pitts­burgh, earn­ing 12 out of 16 first place votes, was selected to fin­ish first accord­ing to the pre­sea­son poll. Vil­lanova was picked to fin­ish sec­ond  fol­lowed by Syra­cuse, George­town and West Virginia.
