Defend­ing cham­pion Sam Quer­rey out­lasted Kevin Ander­son, 7–6 (10–8), 4–6, 6–0 in over two hours on the hard courts at the Los Ange­les Ten­nis Center.

Quer­rey, the sec­ond seed, required three sets to thrash South African Ander­son in the sec­ond round of the $700,000 Farm­ers Clas­sic ten­nis event. A three-time win­ner on the ATP World Tour this sea­son, Quer­rey defeated Aussie Carsten Ball in LA finale last year as well.

At Lines­Maker, Quer­rey (-250) was favored by the bet­tors to beat Ander­son; and to their delight, he did exactly what was expected from him. The Amer­i­can will next do bat­tle with Ger­man Rainer Schuet­tler, who bested Amer­i­can Robby Ginepri, 6–3, 3–6, 6–4.

Amer­i­can Ryan Sweet­ing faced defeat at the hands of third-seeded Cypriot Mar­cos Bagh­datis, 3–6, 6–2, 6–3. Bagh­datis will next face sixth-seeded Ser­bian Janko

Tip­sare­vic, who out­lasted Indian Somdev Dev­var­man, 7–6 (11–9), 6–2.

Today, Ten­nis fans will see top-seeded Aussie Open runner-up Andy Mur­ray play­ing a sec­ond rounder against the little-known Amer­i­can Tim Smy­czek. This will be his first match of the week.

Listed at –1500, Mur­ray is a clear favorite at Lines­Maker to win the game against Smy­czek (+700). The win­ner of this week will claim $111,950.
