Vancouver Beats Calgary in the Battle of NHL Odds
Roberto Luongo registered 43 saves with a shutout in the last minute of the game to rally the Vancouver Canucks over the Calgary Flames to a 3–1 win on Wednesday.
With around 70% of the NHL betting action on their side, the Vancouver Canucks were the clear favorites against Calgary to win among LinesMaker bettors. Having –199 NHL odds, Vancouver delighted the majority of bettors by dominating the Flames (+182).
This was Luongo’s 19th win of the season, while Vancouver has won all but one, lost in regulation, out of the 17 games played since December.
With 1:10 into the game, Ryan Kesler recorded his 20th goal of the season for the Canucks, who won seventh time in a row to take a lead in the Western Conference with 57 points.
Kevin Bieksa scored with 3:48 to go in the opening period as Vancouver took a 2–0 lead. Daniel Sedin scored on a shot by Bieksa in the middle of the second stanza.
Tim Jackman, who attempted for his third season shutout, accounted for the only Calgary goal as he knocked Luongo with a wrist shot with just 11 seconds left to play. Miikka Kiprusoff was tagged with the loss as he blocked 18-of-21 shots.
