San Diego Establishes Petco Park Record with 18–6 Win over N.Y. Mets

The San Diego Padres set the Petco Park scor­ing record with an 18–6 win over the New York Mets on Mon­day night. The credit goes to Jerry Hair­ston Jr. who knocked a grand slam in the sec­ond inning, along with Chase Headley who pulled a homer down along with his four hits going 4-for-5, help­ing San Diego win its third straight and sev­enth of its last nine games.

Fol­low­ing the homer, the Padres ral­lied against the Mets bullpen, get­ting eight hits and five walks includ­ing 10 runs off four reliev­ers in the next two innings.  This was Hairston’s third homer of the sea­son and sec­ond career slam high­light­ing a season-high with 19-hits; his first grand­slam was hit on July 15, 2005, for the Chicago Cubs against Pittsburgh.

This was the New York Mets third loss in four games, they also lost 13 road games in May out of 17. For the Padres how­ever, this was the fourth time in the sea­son that the Padres scored dou­ble figures.

For the Mets Rod Bara­jas and Jose Reyes scored a two-run homer and two-run triple. Hisanori Taka­hashi (4–2) sup­pos­edly bore the brunt of the loss for giv­ing six runs on eight hits and two walks in only four innings.

After this loss, the New York Mets have just 50–1 odds of win­ning the series at Lines­Maker, while the Padres are at 30–1.

Else­where in MLB Mon­day action, Min­nesota defeated Seat­tle 5–4; the Los Ange­les Dodgers defeated Ari­zona 5–4; the Toronto Blue Jays defeated Tampa Bay 3–2; St. Louis defeated Cincin­nati 12–4; Col­orado defeated San Fran­cisco 4–0; Oak­land defeated Detroit 4–1; Los Ange­les Angels defeated Kansas City 7–1 and the New York Yan­kees defeated Cleve­land 11– 2.

The New York Yan­kees are still among the lead­ing con­tenders in the bet­ting action with 3–1 odds of win­ning, closely fol­lowed by the Boston Red Sox and the Philadel­phia Phillies who are equally favored by the bet­tors at Lines­Maker with 8-1winning odds.
