Cleveland Downed the Yankees, 4–1

Josh Tom­lin pitched into the eighth inning to tame the Yan­kees in his major league debut Tues­day, as the Cleve­land Indi­ans over­whelmed New York 4–1. Matt LaPorta also con­tributed with two RBI’s for the Indians.

Tom­lin (1–0) replaced the injured Aaron Laf­fey after being evoked from Class AAA Colum­bus. He baf­fled the Bombers while lim­it­ing them to one run on three hits, while walk­ing none and fan­ning two.

Inspite of giv­ing up a pair of hits in the ninth, Car­los Perez col­lected his 10th save. Cleve­land scored on catcher Fran­cisco Cervelli’s slip-up and Matt LaPorta added a sac­ri­fice fly in the fourth, giv­ing them a lead.

CC Sabathia (13–4) lost for the first time in about two months, hunt­ing for his 150^th career win. The All-Star lefty gave up four runs (two earned) on nine hits in seven frames. Fin­ish­ing 0-for-4 on this 35th birth­day, Alex Rodriguez again failed to hit his 600th homer.

Draw­ing over 73 % of the bet­ting action, the Yan­kees (-240) were clear favorites over the Indi­ans (+200) to win this game. How­ever, the result came as a huge dis­ap­point­ment for most bettors.
