Ty Wigginton’s sac­ri­fice fly in the 11th inning Thurs­day helped in break­ing the final tie of the game, as the Bal­ti­more Ori­oles bested the Kansas City Roy­als 6–5 to snap a five-game los­ing streak. Nick Markakis led off the third with his ninth homer for the Ori­oles. The Roy­als man­aged a 5–3 lead in the fourth inning, with two-run sin­gle by Yuniesky Betancourt. Quer­rey, the sec­ond seed, required three sets to thrash South African Ander­son in the sec­ond round of the $700,000 Farm­ers Clas­sic ten­nis event. Cleveland Downed the Yankees, 4–1

Josh Tom­lin pitched into the eighth inning to tame the Yan­kees in his major league debut Tues­day, as the Cleve­land Indi­ans over­whelmed New York 4–1. Matt LaPorta also con­tributed with two RBI’s for the Indians. Tom­lin (1–0) replaced the injured Aaron Laf­fey after being evoked from Class AAA Colum­bus. Rangers Overpower Tigers

Every­thing seems to be falling into place for the Texas Rangers, as they over­whelmed the Detroit Tigers, 8–0, at Com­er­ica Park on Tues­day. Tommy Hunter’s mas­ter­piece in the form of a three-hitter for seven innings dom­i­nated the Tigers along with improv­ing his record to 7–0. Ian Kinsler con­tributed a triple with three-run homer. Detroit starter Armando Galar­raga gave up two runs in the first inning.
