A-Rod Comes Up Big

The Yan­kees are on the verge of first World Series vic­tory since 2000.

A-Rod returns to the Yan­kees true to his past form. He left prior to the 2009 sea­son to rep­re­sent the Domini­can Repub­lic only to be pulled due to a hip prob­lem that required surgery. Now he’s back, fight­ing fit and pos­si­bly in con­tention for the 2009 World Series MVP with a World Series win from the Yankees.

His return in May 2009 was tri­umphant as he belted a three-run homer on the first pitch off his bat. His pres­ence had been greatly missed by the Yan­kees, they man­age to scrape a 13 –15 record in his absence but now he is back to for­tify the line-up. The Yan­kees soared to first place in the AL East but dropped to sec­ond when A-Rod lost his drive and his bat­ting aver­age slumped. Since June his per­for­mance has recov­ered and in Octo­ber he set an Amer­i­can League record for the most RBIs in a sin­gle inning, break­ing a tie with Babe Ruth, Manny Ramirez and Jim­mie Foxx.

After fail­ing to close out the 2009 World Series in Game 5 with an 8 – 6 loss at Philadel­phia, the Yan­kees return to the Bronx for Game 6. The Yan­kees nearly ended the 2009 World Series in Philadel­phia but yet again they were saved by A-Rod and an early 1–0 lead as Johnny Damon was dri­ven home off A-Rod’s bat. The Yan­kees are one win away from the cham­pi­onship but they are also two losses away from disaster.

The Phillies will be up against it at the Yan­kee Sta­dium but their resilient and if they can match their vibrant per­for­mance from Game 5 they may have a chance of win­ning the World Series 2009.
