Underdog Jets Shock Chargers

The Charg­ers were solid 7.5 point favorites com­ing into Sunday’s game against the Jets. Bet­ting action was bal­anced against the spread by our mem­bers but the con­sen­sus was that the Charg­ers were pretty much a lock to win out­right on the money lines. It did not work out that way, how­ever, as the Jets did not fol­low the script and sur­prised most every­body with an upset victory.

With Charg­ers down 17–7, San Diego kicker Nate Kaed­ing failed on a 40 yard field goal attempt with 4:38 remain­ing in the match. San Diego did score a touch­down with just over two min­utes left, but were unable to recover the ball on the onside kick that fol­lowed. The Charg­ers could not stop New York from get­ting a first down on the next series and could only watch as the clock ticked down on their sea­son and Super Bowl dreams.

Shonn Greene, the Jets rookie run­ning back came through with another 100+ yard per­for­mance — his sec­ond straight in the play­ofs. He had 128 yards on 23 car­ries as well as a touch­down. His 53-yard touch­down run is the longest post-season run in fran­chise his­tory for the Jets and gave New York a 17–7 lead with only eight min­utes left in the game.
