The Los Ange­les Lak­ers claimed a 28–18 lead in the first quar­ter, rout­ing the Boston Celtics Tues­day to force a decid­ing Game 7 in the NBA Finals.

Kobe Bryant pulled 26 points and 11 rebounds Tues­day, while the Lak­ers got con­tri­bu­tions from all over the court to take a 28–18 lead in the open­ing frame. Bryant bounced back from a 92–86 loss in Game 5. Pau Gasol added 17 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists for the Lak­ers, nar­rowly miss­ing a triple-double. Ron Artest fin­ished with 15 points.

Pre­cious for cov­er­ing against the big Lak­ers lineup, Celtics big man Kendrick Perkins injured his knee halfway through the first quar­ter, cre­at­ing more prob­lems for Boston. Ray Allen led Boston with 19 points, along with 13 points from Paul Pierce and 12 from Kevin Gar­nett. Rajon Rondo scored 10 points, five rebounds and six assists for the Celtics.

Game 7 hap­pens to be the 12th Finals meet­ing between the two most suc­cess­ful fran­chises in NBA Cham­pi­onship his­tory.  If the Lak­ers man­age to pum­mel the Celtics on Thurs­day at Sta­ples Cen­ter they will become the first repeat cham­pi­ons in the NBA, see­ing as they have already cap­tured three straight titles in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
