The Boston Celtics over­pow­ered the Port­land Trail Blaz­ers 88–78 Thurs­day, as Glen Davis and Kevin Gar­nett pre­vented a Port­land come­back with late free throws.

Attract­ing nearly 75% of the NBA bet­ting action, the Boston Celtics were the clear favorites against Port­land among Lines­Maker bet­tors. With the NBA lines at –5, Boston delighted the major­ity of bet­tors by defeat­ing the Trail Blazers.

Boston enjoyed a 15 points lead enter­ing in the fourth frame, before the Trail Blaz­ers scored on three 3-pointers in a row to make a come­back after com­plet­ing only 1-of-11 from that range.

Port­land man­aged to get within five as the Celtics strug­gled with the foul line. How­ever, Davis and Gar­nett increased Boston’s lead to nine after scor­ing on two free throws in the final minute.

Ray Allen chipped in with 18 points and Paul Pierce added 17 points for the Celtics, who have won seven of eight games in the first con­test of four-game road trip. Rajon Rondo scored 11 points for Boston, which will play Phoenix, the Los Ange­les Lak­ers and Sacra­mento on their west­ern swing.

LaMar­cus Aldridge scored 17 points to pace the Trail Blaz­ers, who lost two straight games. Port­land man­aged just 36 per­cent shots from the field in the loss.
