For­tu­nately, Ani­mal King­dom, who won the Ken­tucky Derby 2011 by defeat­ing other 18 3-year-olds on Sat­ur­day, will return for the sec­ond leg of the Triple Crown Betting.

More­over, fin­ish­ing eighth as the favorite in the Derby, Dialed In will be among the top com­peti­tors of Ani­mal King­dom for a $5.5 mil­lion bonus in the Preak­ness Stakes. The third Derby run­ner up Mucho Macho Man and Shack­le­ford who fin­ished fourth, are also likely to com­pete in Preak­ness along with sixth place Santiva.

Other horses that com­peted in the Ken­tucky Derby will not run for the Triple Crown trail, either due to injury like Archar­charch and Comma to the Top or because they are wait­ing for the final leg of the Triple Crown. Derby run­ner up Nehro is among the lat­ter group and will be a part of the June 11 Bel­mont Stakes. So, if you are not too keen about Preak­ness Stakes bet­ting, then don’t worry the final leg of Triple Crown bet­ting will also be an event to look out for.
