Burfict Says He’s “misunderstood”

Until Cowboys owner Jerry Jones can find a way to finagle cameras into the player-team interview sessions, we’ll have to settle for the things a player says at the Scouting Combine when meeting with the media. Arizona State linebacker Vontaze Burfict had his chance to talk on Sunday. He has been sliding on draft boards due to concerns regarding an ability to properly harness his fiery on-field demeanor. Naturally, Burfict said that he’s “misunderstood.” Part of the misunderstanding comes from a fight with a teammate. Burfict was asked...

Moss Could Starting Visiting Multiple Teams as Soon as This Week

Multiple teams are interested in veteran wide receiver Randy Moss and visits could begin after the end of the NFL Scouting Combine, league sources said Sunday. Sources also said a deal could be a possibility before March 13 if Moss is close to being in the condition that he’s been telling people. Moss, 35, announced recently that he was eager to play again in 2012 after sitting out the 2011 season. He also claimed that he has recently run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash. Since he isn’t under contract to any team, Moss is eligible to begin taking visits immediately...

Now, the football program has announced a second hire to assume another of Polian’s titles. In a release, Stanford announced that Pete Alamar has been hired as the program’s special teams coordinator. Alamar comes to Stanford from Fresno State, where he spent the past two seasons as the Bulldogs’ special teams coordinator/tight ends coach. “Pete came highly...

Tribe trainer Lonnie Soloff told reporters Sunday in camp that Perez’s “body wasn’t ready for the intensity” of the throwing session, hinting at a possible offseason conditioning issue. It’s Daytona 500 Day!

The 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup season officially kicks off today with the 2012 Daytona 500. The weather is threatening with rain definitely in the forecast for today. Let’s hope we get a full, safe race in today. The Camping World Truck Series and the Nationwide Series both kicked off their seasons in Daytona with a lot of bent sheet metal. Neither race made it to the checkered flag before last-lap wrecks ended the race short of the finish line. Given the mess that the Sprint Cup drivers made of the Budweiser Shootout last week I don’t hold much hope of a clean-and-green...

INDIAN OLIS — Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis said he isn’t “stepping in the shoes” of his late father, Al Davis, because the organization has started a new chapter that will bring about several changes over the next few months. “It’s a brand new day,” Davis said after receiving the Tank Younger Award from the Fritz Pollard Alliance for his father’s commitment to racial and gender equality. “When he came to the Raiders in 1963, there were maybe six coaches, eight coaches, maybe four front-office people.
