Stanford had previously announced that Mike Sanford would become the Cardinal’s recruiting coordinator in place of Brian Polian, who left for a job at Texas A&M earlier in the year. Now, the football program has announced a second hire to assume another of Polian’s titles.
In a release, Stanford announced that Pete Alamar has been hired as the program’s special teams coordinator. Alamar comes to Stanford from Fresno State, where he spent the past two seasons as the Bulldogs’ special teams coordinator/tight ends coach.
“Pete came highly recommended by people who I respect in the coaching profession,” head coach David Shaw said in a statement. “He is one of those rare coaches who can coach not only scheme, but also the technique of snapping, punting and kicking.”
Also the technique of blocking. During his two seasons with the Bulldogs, and unless there was a typo in the Cardinal’s release, Fresno special teams blocked a whopping 18 kicks.
Prior to his time at Fresno State, Alamar spent seven seasons at Arizona (2003–09), three years at Eastern Michigan (2000–02) and six years at Arizona (1993, 1995–99)
