Cincinnati Cited for Secondary Violations
Cincinnati’s football program committed secondary recruiting violations when members of its coaching staff placed 20 impermissible calls to 12 recruits, the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions ruled earlier today.
The secondary violations were part of a much bigger set of infractions — both major and secondary — committed by the school’s athletic program, although most were associated with the women’s basketball program. In all, the self-reported violations included over 200 impermissible calls.
As a result, Cincinnati will face two years probation — from September 29, 2011, through September 28, 2013 — and the following recruiting restrictions were placed on UC’s football coaches:
- Prohibited the football coaching staff from having recruiting telephone contact during four different time periods in 2011.
- Prohibited three assistant football coaches from making calls to prospective student-athletes during varying time periods in the summer of 2011.
