Diaz, McCann Homer as Braves Defeat Marlins
The game ending ninth-frame homer from Brian McCann sparked an Atlanta comeback and rallied the Braves to a 7–6 win over Florida.
Matt Diaz continued with his tendency to smash the fish, as he belted a two-run home run in the bottom of ninth inning for Atlanta Sunday, to tie the game. Diaz has a .380 career batting average against the Marlins.
Marlin’s pitcher Leo Nunez (4–3) walked Brooks Conrad on four pitches and recorded the eighth blown save of the season.
Diaz followed with a 2–1 delivery for an opposite-field homer, while grouping in left field with Melky Cabrera and Eric Hinske. Two bats later, McCann pulled a two-out solo shot, which was a double in the beginning but turned out to be a game-winning round-tripper. This marked the 23rd victory of the Braves this season in their final at-bat.
Takashi Saito (2–3) was accredited with the success for a scoreless ninth inning. The Braves maintained their two-game National League East advantage over the Philadelphia Phillies.
With nearly 52 % of the bets placed on their side, Atlanta (+100) were the clear favorites among the majority of bettors, and they proved their supporters correct by ousting Florida (-106).
