Suspended Lions’ Suh Eligible to Return to Practice Dec. 12

The NFL has denied the appeal of Detroit Lions defen­sive tackle Ndamukong Suh over his two-game sus­pen­sion for stomp­ing on an oppo­nent, accord­ing to a league source.

“Art Shell, jointly appointed by the league and the NFL Play­ers Asso­ci­a­tion to hear the case under the new Col­lec­tive Bar­gain­ing Agree­ment, has noti­fied Suh about the deci­sion,” The league said in a state­ment released Fri­day. “Suh is sus­pended for the Lions’ next two games and will be rein­stated to the active ros­ter on Dec. 12.”

Suh will miss the Lions’ home game in New Orleans on Sun­day and a home game against the Min­nesota Vikings in Week 14.

“We respect the dis­ci­pli­nary process,” said Lions pres­i­dent Tom Lewand in a state­ment. “Obvi­ously, today’s rul­ing does not impact our prepa­ra­tions for this week’s game. We remain exclu­sively focused on the New Orleans Saints.”

Shell is one of two on-field appeals offi­cers — Ted Cot­trell is the other — appointed and com­pen­sated by the NFL and NFLPA to decide the appeals of on-field player discipline.

Suh was penal­ized and ejected from a Thanks­giv­ing Day loss to Green Bay for stomp­ing on the arm of Green Bay Pack­ers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith. The league handed down the sus­pen­sion on Tues­day and Suh imme­di­ately appealed, which was heard on a con­fer­ence call Thursday.
