Sens’ Game 7 Heartbreak

NEW YORK — The Senators played their hearts out, only to have them broken by the New York Rangers. In the end, the Senators couldn’t write the storybook finish to their storybook season after they dropped a 2–1 decision in Game 7 of their first-round series Thursday night at Madison Square Garden. In what may have been his final game with the Senators, captain Daniel Alfredsson led the charge with one of his best games of his season and the only shot that beat Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. Goaltender Craig Anderson, still looking for his first...

Two Kansas Players Dismissed for Violating Rules

LAWRENCE (CFB/Rivals) — Sophomore linebacker Collin Garrett and freshman cornerback Chris Robinson have been dismissed from the Kansas football team for violating team rules. New coach Charlie Weis announced the dismissals Monday. He did not elaborate on what caused the players to be kicked off the team. Garrett played in six games as a freshman last season, making four tackles against Oklahoma and one tackle each in games against Kansas State, Baylor and Missouri. Robinson spent the season as a redshirt. Our sports betting news features unique sports betting articles as well as current sports news compiled from leading wire services. Tiger Stadium Needs Love Too

DETROIT (MLB/Calcaterra) — Everyone went all out for Fenway Park’s 100th anniversary on Friday. But if there was any justice in the world there would have been two grand old parks celebrating their centennials. Because Tiger Stadium would have turned 100 that day too. Yes, I realize that I am nearly 15 years too late to cry about this, but I still cry. Tiger Stadium was where I discovered baseball, dammit, and where I fell in love with it. And I realize that my case is unique in that, because of a connected relative, I always had decent seats and didn’t...

Senators ‘Light and Relaxed’

NEW YORK — Paul MacLean was tight-lipped Thursday morning. He’s not giving away any plans for tonight’s lineup. The Senators coach told reporters following the club’s optional skate at Madison Square Garden he’s keeping all his “options open” for his lineup for Game 7. Neither Zenon Konopka nor Matt Carkner were on the ice, but MacLean insisted “both will be available” to play. If they’re not, expect Bobby Butler and Matt Gilroy to step as the Senators try to advance to Round 2. It was the second straight day Carkner and Konopka weren’t on...

Proposed Ban on Race Day Medications in Ky. Fails

LEXINGTON, Ky. (SCHREINER) — A proposal to ban an anti-bleeding drug on race days in Kentucky lost by a nose on Monday in a debate dividing a hobbled thoroughbred industry struggling to preserve the Bluegrass state’s reputation as the nation’s horse capital. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission ended the tense discussion on the use of furosemide with a 7–7 roll call vote on the proposed regulation that would have prohibited the drug from the Kentucky Derby in 2014, and in the whole state starting in 2015. The race-day ban would have...

HRT to Miss Mugello Test

After some careful assessment, HRT have announced they will not be attending next week’s Formula One test in Mugello, Italy. With planned upgrades to the Spanish team’s car not due for completion until after the session, they will instead concentrate on moving to their new headquarters. “The start to the season was a little bit rushed for us and, since the cars were set up for the first time, we have been working on them at the Grands Prix,” explained team principal Luis Perez-Sala. “The team and the material have just got back from Bahrain after leaving...

Nadal had a bye in the first round after defeating Novak Djokovic in the Monte Carlo Masters final on Sunday and improved to 31–1 on the clay in Barcelona after breaking his fellow Spaniard six times. “My knee bothered me a little, but that’s normal. In 15 days, the discomfort isn’t going to go away, but it doesn’t keep you from playing...

Bucs Might Trade Up for Trent Richardson

Draft day is finally here. Before we head over to Radio City Music Hall, however, we have a full day on tap of draft rumors. That’s just how this goes. The latest comes from the Cleveland Plain-Dealer: According to their sources, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are very interested in Alabama running back Trent Richardson and might consider trying to trade up to No. 3 to get him. The Browns also appear to covet Richardson at No. 4, although smarter minds than us believe they might wind up taking wide receiver Justin Blackmon. This much is clear: Richardson is very high...

Yankees’ Pineda to Miss Rest of Season

Updated Apr 25, 2012 11:04 PM ET Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda needs surgery on his right shoulder and will miss the rest of the season, the team announced Wednesday. Doctors diagnosed the 23-year-old right-hander with a torn labrum and he will undergo surgery Tuesday. He is expected to be out of action for at least a year. General manager Brian Cashman said Pineda felt a “sharp pain” in his shoulder Saturday after 15 pitches in an extended spring training game in Florida. The six-foot-seven Dominican came to the Yankees in the winter in a trade, with the...
