BoSox Ousted Rays, 11–5

Marco Scutaro recorded two home runs for Boston, as they topped the Tampa Bay Rays 11–5 Wednesday in the rubber match of a three-game set. Scutaro completed 4-for-5 with three RBI’s, while Adrian Beltre, David Ortiz and Victor Martinez contributed a total of 17 hits for the Red Sox. The 44-year-old right-hander Tim Wakefield (4–10) became the oldest pitcher in the history of the Boston Red Sox to register a win. Although getting a call quite quickly, the veteran knuckleballer gave six hits and four earned runs, over five innings leading to the win...

Turkey Ousted Slovenia in FIBA World Championship

Turkey knocked Slovenia out of the basketball world championship as they posted a 95–68 win in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Ersan Ilyasova pulled in 19 points to rally round Turkey. Both the teams exchanged leads five times until Kerem Tunceri managed a 3-pointer with 6:35 left in the first quarter. This success helped Turkey to take a 12–11 lead, while keying a 20–5 run. Turkey registered eight of 11 3s in the first half. Bostjan Nachbar and Sani Becirovic each managed to make 16 points for Slovenia. The Turkish team were 7 point favorites against...

Cleveland Browns Betting Preview

At four games, the Cleveland Browns are on the longest winning streak. Everyone in Cleveland is on notice that their job could be under threat, and this has something to do with the influence of general manager Mike Holmgren. The only sweeping change made by the Browns was at the top with the position of quarterback. Everyone was wondering whether it would be Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson in charge. Neither did as both were cut from Cleveland, and Seneca Wallace, Jake Delhomme and rookie Colt McCoy entered the team as their replacements. Although the...

Latos Sets MLB Record Against Padres

The San Diego Padres topped the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2–1, in the second test of a three-game series. Mat Latos pitched seven innings of one-run baseball, setting an MLB record. Allowing just four hits, Latos (14–5) has given two runs or less in each of his last 15 starts, making the longest such streak in the history of the major league (min. 5.0 IP). Improving to 9–1 during his awesome streak, Latos also struck out 10 without allowing a walk. Aaron Cunningham and Adrian Gonzalez also contributed with runs for the Padres. Rafael Furcal pulled in the only...

Florida Thrashed Betting Favorite Atlanta, 7–6

Drawing nearly 60% of the betting action, Atlanta (-119) was the clear favorite over Florida among LinesMaker bettors. However, they disappointed a majority of bettors by succumbing to a loss at the hands of Florida. The Florida Marlins passed over the Atlanta Braves Sunday, 7–6, in the rubber match of a three-game set. The pinch-hit single by Scott Cousins, also his first big league hit, in the bottom of 10 frame scored Emilio Bonifacio. Getting a triple off Eric O’Flaherty (3–2), Bonifacio led off the 10th inning, while Cousins replaced Logan Morrison,...

Jets End Cornerback Revis’ Holdout

Ending the month long holdout of cornerback Revis, the New York Jets have agreed to a deal with Revis. Making an official announcement about the contract early Monday morning, the Jets did not reveal the terms of the contract though. The fourth-year player, Revis was last years’ All-pro selection and had three more years left on his rookie contract. Apparently, there were rough negotiations going on between the Jets and Revis as he wanted to be the highest-paid player at the position he held. Head coach Rex Ryan had reportedly said during the media briefings...

Hawaii QB Moniz Injured, Trojans Beat Hawaii

Hawaii quarterback Bryant Moniz left the season-opener game against No.14 Southern California Thursday after being hit hard near the head by linebacker Michael Morgan. Moniz completed 18-of-36 passes for 269 yards and pulled a score for the Warriors (0–1). He scrambled for 13 yards to the USC5 late in third before leaving the game. He was replaced by Brent Rausch. Tying a school record by throwing five touchdowns, Matt Barkley rallied Southern California to a 49–36 victory over Hawaii. Being the 13th straight win in a season opener for the Trojans,...

Browns Overwhelm Bears in NFL Preseason Game

The Cleveland Browns topped the Chicago Bears 13–10 Thursday, courtesy to 36-yard last second field goal by Phil Dawson. Interestingly, this field goal from Dawson was the single scoring play in the second half of the game for both teams. Colt McCoy, rookie quarterback for the Browns, completed all 13 of his passes for 131 yards to give a fantastic performance in the first half. Chicago quarterback Todd Collins also completed 10 of 15 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown, with a 15-yard scoring hit to Greg Olsen. Rookie running back Montario...

Cincinnati Bengals Betting Preview

Everyone was taken aback last season when the Cincinnati Bengals won the AFC North title by defeating both the Ravens and the Steelers. However, after seeing the Bengals succumb to two terrible losses one after the other to New York in the end of the season, there may be doubt whether the position of head coach Marvin Lewis is secure or not. Lewis will no longer be playing a third place schedule as his team still has loads of offensive issues. Quarterback Carson Palmer, who is accustomed to throwing for 4,000+ yards, hardly threw for 3,000 yards;...
