No Contact for Arkansas’ Davis During Scrimmage

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Knile Davis’ return to con­tact will have to wait just a bit longer for Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino.

The Razor­backs took part in their first scrim­mage of the spring on Fri­day, but Davis didn’t take part in con­tact drills dur­ing the team’s first scrimmage.

The prac­tice was the first open one this spring for the Razor­backs, who were 11–2 last sea­son and won the Cot­ton Bowl over Kansas State.

Davis, return­ing to the field after an ankle injury cost him all of last sea­son, has taken part in all of the Razor­backs spring prac­tices. Petrino said Davis’ sta­tus will be taken on a week-by-week basis mov­ing forward.

“He’s been doing every­thing full speed,” Petrino said. “He’s been cut­ting, mak­ing every­thing, looks good. There’s just some­thing in con­sult­ing with our med­ical staff, and we made the deci­sion that let’s not tackle him today.”

The junior led all South­east­ern Con­fer­ence run­ning backs with 1,322 two sea­sons ago, aver­ag­ing 147 yards per game over the final seven games of the season.

He was a pre­sea­son second-team All-SEC selec­tion last sea­son before injur­ing his ankle.

Davis took part in the non-contact por­tion of prac­tice on Fri­day before Arkansas split into offen­sive and defen­sive units. At that point, he stood behind the offense through­out the scrimmage.

Quar­ter­back Tyler Wil­son threw four touch­downs, while run­ning back Den­nis John­son ran for three more dur­ing the scrimmage.

Petrino, mean­while, said Davis made it clear he’s ready to take part in contact.

“He always wants to,” Petrino said.

The Razor­backs have two more scrim­mages sched­uled, on April 6th and 13th, while the spring game is sched­uled for April 21st.
