USA Has Commanding Lead, but Presidens Cup Peculiarities Give Internationals Glimmer of Hope

The United States team is in great position to retain ownership of the Presidents Cup heading into the final day of the 2011 matches. Team International won the previous session, Saturday afternoon fourballs, by a 3–2 score, but that only got the Internationals within four points. Team USA leads overall, 13–9. Comebacks from 4-point deficits heading into singles matches are very rare in the history of the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup and Presidents Cup. Only once before in the history of the Presidents Cup has a team won the singles sessions...

Furyk Now Best Player in Presidents Cup History

Jim Furyk went unbeaten and untied at the 2011 Presidents Cup, and that now makes him the best player in Presidents Cup history. The Presidents Cup is so young that each competition brings changes to the list of Presidents Cup records, with some players moving up, others moving down; some improving their overall winning percentage, others going in the other direction. And after Team USA’s 19–15 over Team International at Royal Melbourne, Furyk now has the best winning percentage of any player with at least 10 matches played at the Presidents Cup. Furyk’s...

James Garner Calls Bill Murray’s Golf Antics a ‘Disgrace’

Every year the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am includes celebrities in the PGA Tour event, and every year the most popular celebrity is, by far, Bill Murray. And Murray has a lot of fun, and gets a lot of laughs (and along the way plays some pretty good golf). The fans love him, the PGA Tour pros appear to love him, the television network cameras certainly love him. James Garner hates him. Rather, Garner hates Murray’s often-silly, attention-grabbing antics during the tournament. You know Garner, right? The veteran actor of many, many movies, but probably...
