Vancouver Beats Calgary in the Battle of NHL Odds

Roberto Luongo reg­is­tered 43 saves with a shutout in the last minute of the game to rally the Van­cou­ver Canucks over the Cal­gary Flames to a 3–1 win on Wednesday.

With around 70% of the NHL bet­ting action on their side, the Van­cou­ver Canucks were the clear favorites against Cal­gary to win among Lines­Maker bet­tors. Hav­ing –199 NHL odds, Van­cou­ver delighted the major­ity of bet­tors by dom­i­nat­ing the Flames (+182).

This was Luongo’s 19th win of the sea­son, while Van­cou­ver has won all but one, lost in reg­u­la­tion, out of the 17 games played since December.

With 1:10 into the game, Ryan Kesler recorded his 20th goal of the sea­son for the Canucks, who won sev­enth time in a row to take a lead in the West­ern Con­fer­ence with 57 points.

Kevin Bieksa scored with 3:48 to go in the open­ing period as Van­cou­ver took a 2–0 lead. Daniel Sedin scored on a shot by Bieksa in the mid­dle of the sec­ond stanza.

Tim Jack­man, who attempted for his third sea­son shutout, accounted for the only Cal­gary goal as he knocked Luongo with a wrist shot with just 11 sec­onds left to play. Miikka Kipru­soff was tagged with the loss as he blocked 18-of-21 shots.
