A Cana­dian Thor­ough­bred race, the High­lander Stakes is held at Wood­bine Race­track in Toronto, Ontario, every year in mid to late June. Con­tended among three year and older horses, it is run over six fur­longs on turf and car­ries a purse of $200,000.

Upgraded to Grade II sta­tus for 2010, this race was started back in 1954 as the High­lander Hand­i­cap at Toronto’s Green­wood Race­way, but the venue was changed to Wood­bine Race­track in 1957. Until 2003 this race was held on dirt, after which it was moved to the turf.
