Jose Bautista, the Blue Jays out­fielder, hit his major league-leading 50^th homer, while Toronto defeated the Seat­tle Mariners Thurs­day, 1–0.

Bautista, who never man­aged to pull more than 16 home runs in any sea­sons before 2010, is now counted among the priv­i­leged class of power hit­ters after becom­ing the 26th player in the his­tory of base­ball to hit 50 or more home runs in a sea­son. He is the first player to col­lect 50-home-run since Yan­kees’ Alex Rodriguez (54) and Milwaukee’s Prince Fielder (50) touched that mark in 2007.

Attract­ing nearly 55% of the MLB bet­ting action, the Toronto Blue Jays (+127) were the favorites with the major­ity of Lines­Maker bet­tors, if not the odd­s­mak­ers, and they proved their sup­port­ers cor­rect by oust­ing Seat­tle (-135).

Toronto starter Shawn Hill (1–2) allowed four hits with one walk over five innings, in his first win with the Blue Jays. Kevin Gregg got his 35^th save in the ninth.

Extend­ing his own record, Seat­tle out­fielder Ichiro Suzuki marked his 200-hit for the 10^th con­sec­u­tive sea­son on the final hit allowed by Hill.

Felix Her­nan­dez (12–12) gave just two hits in eight innings, the first one being the two-out blast over the wall in Bautista’s first-inning. Walk­ing four and hit­ting five, Her­nan­dez walked the next two bat­ters while retir­ing the fol­low­ing 13 before giv­ing up a sin­gle to Travis Snider in sixth frame.
