End of a Fed-Era at Wimbledon
For the second day running, the tennis world came to a stop with another Wimbledon legend, and arguably the best player on the planet, crashing out of the tournament.
After Venus Williams’ sudden exit on Tuesday, it was the turn of none other than Roger Federer. Tomas Berdych, the Czech No.12 seed, who had defeated Federer in Miami earlier this year, took him out in 4 sets, 6–4, 3–6, 6–1, 6–4. The fact is that Federer looked susceptible from the beginning of the tournament as he barely defeated a number of unknown players and looked rather ordinary in this match as well. After the exit of World No.1 Federer, Nadal automatically has become the betting favorite to win this year’s Wimbledon.
In other action, Serena Williams had to battle hard against Petra Kvitova to make it to her sixth Wimbledon final, where she will meet Vera Zvonareva who will be playing her first Grand Slam final.
Rafael Nadal meets Andy Murray in the first semifinal match, while Novak Djokovic will play the giant killer Tomas Berdych. LinesMaker has the betting odds on Nadal at –160 against Murray in their matchup. In the women’s final, Serena is a clear favorite with odds of –700, while her opponent for the next match, Zvonareva is at –450.
