Rams Hope to Hire Fisher as Coach and Add Young GM

The St. Louis Rams hope to hire for­mer Ten­nessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher and pair him with a young gen­eral man­ager, league sources said Monday.

Fisher has been at the top of the Rams’ head-coach wish list for some time as a replace­ment for Steve Spag­n­uolo, who was fired Mon­day, along with GM Billy Devaney. The Miami Dol­phins also have asked Fisher to inter­view for their head-coaching vacancy.

Sev­eral league sources indi­cated the Rams have com­piled a list of gen­eral man­ager can­di­dates that includes up-and-coming per­son­nel names. The goal is to hire Fisher and have him par­tic­i­pate in the inter­view­ing process to form a tan­dem with the new GM that would sat­isfy the vet­eran coach.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he would take a flex­i­ble approach in the hir­ing process and wouldn’t nec­es­sar­ily hire a new GM before hir­ing a new coach.

Accord­ing to the sources, Atlanta’s Les Snead, Kansas City’s Ray Farmer, Seattle’s Will Lewis and Tennessee’s Lake Daw­son are among the top can­di­dates for the GM posi­tion. Daw­son worked with Fisher when he was coach of the Titans. Rams chief oper­at­ing offi­cer Kevin Demoff is involved in the process with Kroenke and has been help­ing put together a list of candidates.

Demoff’s father, Mar­vin, is Fisher’s long­time agent. Snead also is on the short list for the Oak­land Raiders’ gen­eral man­ager open­ing, along with Green Bay’s Reg­gie McKen­zie, Baltimore’s Eric DeCosta and San Francisco’s Tom Gamble.
