Suprise! Brett Favre Returns to NFL

Brett Favre made an offi­cial announce­ment on Wednes­day regard­ing his return to the Min­nesota Vikings for the 2010 NFL season.

The three time NFL MVP has been on the verge of retire­ment for many years. He has rejoined the Vikings for the third time, and per­haps for the last time, as indi­cated by him.

“After this year, I’m done,” said Favre at a news con­fer­ence fol­low­ing his first prac­tice. “It was obvi­ously a tough deci­sion to come back. I can’t say I’m going to do any­thing dif­fer­ent than I did last year. I’d love to think that I’ll play bet­ter. I’m going to do every­thing I can to help this team win and see what happens.”

Favre resumed prac­tice with the team at Eden Prairie, Minn Wednes­day. Favre led Min­nesota to within a game of mak­ing it to the Super Bowl last year — los­ing in the NFC Cham­pi­onship Game against even­tual Super Bowl champs the New Orleans Saints. He indi­cated that the strong pos­si­bil­ity of play­ing in another Super Bowl made him return to the NFL again.

One thing is cer­tain that with Favre, the Vikings are defi­nately a seri­ous con­tender for the Super Bowl. The Min­nesota Vikings, who started the sea­son with 15 to 1 odds to win the Super Bowl, are cur­rently at 9 to 1 odds to win the 2011 Super Bowl.

Hav­ing logged 285 starts since 1992, he said, “I can’t promise you I can make it through the sea­son, I couldn’t promise that to you when I was 21. Favre, who has been suf­fer­ing with a left ankle prob­lem, had indi­cated pre­vi­ously that he would play if he main­tains his health. Appar­ently, his con­tract amount has also been increased from $ 13 mil­lion to $16.5 million.
