Islanders Down NHL Betting Favorite Penguins
The New York Islanders rolled past the Pittsburgh Penguins 2–1 Wednesday, as P.A. Parenteau scored in the fourth shootout round and New York kept Sidney Crosby from scoring.
Attracting nearly 80% of the NHL betting action, the Pittsburgh Penguins were the clear favorites over the Islanders among LinesMaker bettors. Having –200 NHL odds, Pittsburgh disappointed bettors when they lost to the Islanders (+183).
With this game, Crosby ended his points streak at 25 games, which is the longest streak in the NHL in 18 years. Earlier Mats Sundin scored a point in 30 straight games in the 1992–93 season, while playing for the Quebec Nordiques. In his streak that started on Nov. 5, Crosby chipped in 50 points with 26 goals and 24 assists and is leading the league with 32 goals and 56 points.
In the first three shootout rounds, both the teams hit two goals. In the fourth shootout, Parenteau’s shot went past Marc-Andre Fleury. Rick DiPietro blocked Mark Letestu as New York registered their fifth win in seven games.
Josh Bailey scored on a goal 34 seconds into the second quarter to help New York take 1–0 lead. However, Chris Conner tied the game with 3:27 left in the second.
DiPietro was credited with the win with 37 saves. Fleury stopped 25 shots for the Penguins.
