Maybe you like a beer (or two) during a round, but don’t like waiting for the beer cart to come back around. Or maybe you just don’t want to wait until the turn to pick up a beverage or a snack. Or maybe you’re just thirsty right now and can’t wait any longer for service.
But, darn it, the beverage cart is all the way on the other side of the course! Sorry, you’ll just have to wait.
Or do you? A new company says no; scan4beer says you can summon that beverage cart simply by waving your smartphone over a barcode that the golf course has provided for you.
Scan4beer is currently being tested at a handful of golf courses in the United States; a wider roll-out is expected in February 2012.
Golf courses that sign up with scan4beer.com to use the service can place barcodes around the course – for example, on tee box signage, on scorecards, on ballwashers, inside golf carts. Then a golfer who wants food or drink but doesn’t see the beer cart around can scan that barcode with a free app downloaded onto his or her mobile phone. Doing that alerts the driver of the beverage cart, who is shown where on the course her presence is requested. The “cart girl” can then drive directly to the golfer who wants beer and wants it now.
On-demand beer cart service. What do you think?
