Canadian Open Championship Betting Preview

Fol­low­ing the sur­pris­ing win of Louis Oost­huizen at the Open Cham­pi­onship, some of the best play­ers in the world arrive in North Amer­ica for the RBC Cana­dian Open at St. George’s Golf Club in Toronto, Canada. The play­ers will be com­pet­ing for a total purse of $5.1 mil­lion and 500 FedEx Cup points.

Paul Casey is a strong chal­lenger fol­low­ing his strong per­for­mance in the first three rounds of the British Open, he was a great chal­lenge for Oost­huizen prior to his 75 on Sun­day. Another big con­tender is Retief Goosen, who fin­ished only one stroke behind Casey at the British open.

Casey seems to be a favorite with bet­tors and Lines­Maker offers him to win the event at +1500. Goosen is a +1000 favorite and has excel­lent prospects for being in the hunt on Sun­day hav­ing had seven Top 10 fin­ishes in 2010.

Luke Don­ald is another great choice at +1200. Lead­ing the tour in sand saves and scram­bling, he fin­ished 11^th at the Open Cham­pi­onship. The course lay­out in Toronto may work to his advan­tage. Stretch­ing over 7,046 yards, the par-70 course at the St. George’s Golf Club has an unusual hole setup with five par-3, unlike the usual four par-3 courses. Don­ald was 15^th on the Tour in par-3 scor­ing average.

The other favorite, Sean O’Hair is also worth con­sid­er­ing. He fin­ished 7^th on the Old Course and made it in the Top 12 in five of his last six events and in the Top 25 in six of his last seven. Listed at +1500 at Lines­Maker, O’Hair is joined by Matt Kuchar, Tim Clark and Camilo Villegas.

Gra­ham DeLaet (+4000) is a long shot who is get­ting some bet­ting action. He missed out on a play­off at the Shell by one stroke, and played in the Reno-Tahoe Open last week with the low round of the cham­pi­onship, a 62 on Sat­ur­day. Most impor­tantly, being a Cana­dian he is well-versed with this course and will be a fan favorite, which is always an advantage.
