UPDATED Jan. 1 @ 6:44 p.m. ET: Any lingering questions concerning Matt McGloin’s availability for Penn State’s bowl game Monday were officially answered on Sunday.
Not so unexpectedly, interim PSU head coach Tom Bradley confirmed this afternoon that McGloin has been ruled out of the TicketCity Bowl against Houston. As expected, Rob Bolden will get the starting nod under center.
McGloin is still dealing with a concussion he suffered during a locker-room scuffle with an offensive teammate.

As uncertainty and mystery continues to reign in Penn State’s search for a new head coach, there’s some definitive clarity for the Nittany Lions at the quarterback position. Probably.
The Nittany Lions all but confirmed the expected again Friday that Rob Bolden will likely start under center in the TicketCity Bowl against Houston Monday. Bolden had started the first seven games of the season, but this will be his first since Oct. 15 against Purdue.
“Right now, we’re going to play with Rob,” offensive coordinator Galen Hall said.
The sophomore would replace Matt McGloin, who started the last five games of the regular season.
McGloin was concussed in a locker room dust-up with wide receiver Curtis Drake earlier this month and has only been able to throw lightly during practice in preparation for the bowl game. Walk-on Shane McGregor is expected to serve as Bolden’s backup.
As a Big Ten fan, I hate to see this happen. McGloin is clearly the better QB. PSU will need to score at least 4 TDs to win this one. PSU’s defense is good, but Houston is capable of scoring a lot of points. How many more people is Drake going to punch out before PSU kicks him off the team?
Is this still the same Galen Hall that was in some trouble a number of years ago at Florida? Is he as old as JoePa?
Bob Stoops might have bought a house near State College.

You know things are not going well when your 5’11 wide receiver decks your rugged qb and keeps him out of a bowl game. Amazing that Bradley continues to persevere. Bradley, Johnson, Vanderlinden and Anderson should all get good jobs at major programs. Jay Paterno should definitely try to find something at which he is good.
So what they’re really saying is they don’t plan to throw the ball at all? Man Silas Redd better have a monster game or it’s over.
This means Penn State is going to lose,Bolden Sucks.
