Big East to Add Memphis in All Sports

Mem­phis is the lat­est school to sign up for a spot in the new Big East. A per­son famil­iar with the deci­sion says Mem­phis is join­ing the Big East. The per­son spoke to The Asso­ci­ated Press on con­di­tion of anonymity because an offi­cial announce­ment was pending. Mem­phis Ath­letic direc­tor R.C. John­son said the school is hold­ing a con­fer­ence call fol­lowed by a news con­fer­ence Wednes­day to dis­cuss the university’s ath­letic affiliation. Wash. St. LB Mizell Charged in Fight

PULLMAN, Wash. — Wash­ing­ton State line­backer C.J. Mizell has been arrested in a week­end fight at a fra­ter­nity house party. Pull­man police say Mizell was arrested Sun­day on mis­de­meanor charges of assault and tres­pass­ing. He was taken to jail but released on his own recognizance. Police say Mizell tried to enter a party at the Delta Tau Delta fra­ter­nity house on Sat­ur­day night. When he was denied entry, police say Mizell punched one of the mem­bers and fled. Stanford LB Skov Arrested for DUI

STANFORD, Calif. — In a rar­ity for a pres­ti­gious aca­d­e­mics uni­ver­sity that prides itself on a higher stan­dard, Stan­ford had a player get into trou­ble with the law. Star line­backer Shayne Skov was arrested and jailed last week­end for dri­ving under the influence. A Stan­ford Uni­ver­sity Depart­ment of Pub­lic Safety spokesman said Skov was arrested for dri­ving under the influ­ence Sun­day at about 2 a.m. The inci­dent, first reported by The Stan­ford Daily stu­dent news­pa­per Mon­day night, occurred on campus. Nevada Promotes Bradeson to Run Defense

RENO, Nev. — Nevada pro­moted safeties coach Mike Brade­son to defen­sive coor­di­na­tor and announced run­ning backs Casey Moore will not return to the program. Coach Chris Ault said Mon­day that he plans to hire three new offen­sive coaches, includ­ing a coor­di­na­tor who will also be quar­ter­backs coach to help expand the Wolf Pack’s pis­tol offense. ATHENS, Ga. — Three fresh­men Geor­gia foot­ball play­ers this sea­son have been dis­missed from the team by coach Mark Richt for undis­closed violations. ATLANTA — Geor­gia Tech offi­cials are con­sid­er­ing the impli­ca­tions of this week’s dis­clo­sure that the school broke NCAA recruit­ing rules.
