Silva-Sonnen II, What’s Taking So Long? Camp Silva Doesn’t Sound Too Enthused

Chael Son­nen called the champ out in front 16,000-plus in Hous­ton and mil­lions more watch­ing on pay-per-view. He’s insulted his home­land, his char­ac­ter and even his wife. So why isn’t Ander­son Silva-Sonnen II booked?

Lis­ten­ing to his man­ager Ed Soares, Camp Silva is either play­ing minds games or it doesn’t want the fight.

“Let’s see what the big boss is going to do. My opin­ion is that he (Son­nen) had his chance and tapped, he should go back to the end of the line. The same thing is true with Vitor Belfort. They’re great fight­ers, but they had their chance,” Soares said. “Son­nen would make a big fight, as would Dan Hen­der­son and Georges St-Pierre, but we should rec­og­nize that Ander­son only has around four fights left in his career.”

Soares says it isn’t per­sonal with Son­nen, but the champ will deter­mine his own schedule.

“Chael is not the per­son that’s going to deter­mine when [Silva] is going to take the fight. When he’s going to take this fight is when his shoul­der is com­pletely healed up, and he’s ready to start his train­ing camp for the fight,” Soares told MMA­junkie on fight night at UFC 136. “It’s not because Chael says he wants to fight in Feb­ru­ary. Who is Chael to deter­mine that? Chael needs to take a num­ber and wait his turn. He got his oppor­tu­nity, and he tapped. It’s not the first time he’s tapped, and I guar­an­tee you it won’t be the last.”

Dana White con­firmed that Silva’s shoul­der bur­si­tis has to take care of before he can book the fight for Super Bowl Sat­ur­day week­end in Las Vegas.
