As Florio mentioned earlier Wednesday, Saturday’s Bengals-Texans game will make a little history.
It will be the first playoff game ever pitting two rookie quarterbacks. T.J. Yates of the Texans may be a little more prepared than Bengals starter Andy Dalton.
Dalton missed Wednesday’s practice with the flu. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said that he wasn’t too concerned, but it’s obviously less than ideal for Dalton to miss the week’s most important practice before a playoff game. The Bengals practiced in pads after weeks of not doing so.
Texans fifth-round pick T.J. Yates practiced fully for a second straight day Wednesday. Yates is the first fifth-round rookie quarterback to start a playoff game for a franchise making its first playoff appearance playing in a dome on a Saturday.
Gary Kubiak said that Yates has been “very impressive” this week correcting his mistakes and he’s taken all the first team reps. Yates will start, as will starting guard Mike Brisiel.
Texans left tackle Duane Brown says Brisiel was the highest graded lineman on the team. Brisiel broke his leg three weeks ago, but will be ready to face the Bengals.
