Tiumen Gets Hat Trick at Velka Pardubicka Race
PARDUBICE, Czech Republic —Tiumen has won the Velka Pardubicka steeplechase horse race for the third straight year with 58-year-old Josef Vana again on board as jockey-trainer.
The 6.9-kilometer (4.3-mile) race is considered one of the toughest in Europe and Vana has now won it eight times as a jockey and nine times as a trainer. He won with Tiumen the previous two years.
“I think we’re a good couple,” Vana says.
The 10-year-old Tiumen was followed by Sixteen, who was in the lead most of the race, and Valldemoso in the 121st edition of the race on Sunday.
