Maryland has already jettisoned – somewhat – offensive coordinator Gary Crowton this month, replacing him with former New Mexico head coach Mike Locksley.
Now, the coordinator on the other side of the ball is on the verge of getting Crowton’d as well.
With speculation bubbling just below the surface over the past few days, the Washington Post reports that Terrapins defensive coordinator Todd Bradford is not expected to return in 2012. The Baltimore Sun reported overnight that a complete review into a football program that recently completed an abysmal two-win season continues, and that Bradford’s job is not safe.
In his inaugural campaign as first-year head coach Randy Edsall‘s coordinator, Bradford’s defense was, well, abysmal. The Terps were 108th in total defense (457.2 ypg) and 103rd in scoring defense (34.3 ppg) in 2011; in the last season under Ralph Friedgen in 2010, prior to his laughable dismissal, the Terps finished 39th (352.3 ypg) and 38th (22.2 ppg), respectively, in those key categories.
As for potential replacements, the Post lists former Maryland head coach Ron Vanderlinden and former Miami head coach Randy Shannon as possibilities, although the former seems more likely than the latter.
